Catalan News- Job Security

An article I found in La Vanguardia, a generally neutral sometimes conservative news source, that I found interesting is about job security and employee rights. The article is about creating a law so that companies will not be able to fire employees after three consecutive times sick. The ministry of labor “wants justice for employees”, which is important so they can have job security and the state can maintain public health. According to the article, it will take more than a month for this law to pass in parliament but it does have strong support because of the justice wanted for employees.

I picked this article because I found it related to a class I took last semester, ‘Human Capital Sustainable’. In this class, I learned about how it is important for employers and organizations to invest in their employees for the sustainability of the company/ organization and the well being of the individual.

This article reminds me of the difference between the U.S. and Spain because in the U.S. we have laws that protect employees against employers discriminating. We also have “employment- at- will” in the U.S. and the contract that is a general understanding that you can be fired at any time with no notice, however it protects against discrimination.
